IF YOU TOO HAVE CAUGHT THE VIRUS (FROM WARHAMMER, NOT THE OTHER ONE, WELL, YOU KNOW...)

Warhammer.... you've heard about it, you've become interested in it (sometimes even years after you've heard about it) and now you've decided to take the plunge. CONGRATULATIONS!

But where to start? That's the $1,000 question! And rather than spend 1000CHF on this question, keep it to buy yourself some figurines and paint (and brushes, and palette, and trimmer, etc.) and spend no more than 6.90 on one of these booklets:

Now that you've spent your money wisely, and since we're here on a blog whose aim is to write things, we're going to try and help you (free of charge) get through this initiatory stage, which is oh so important, precious and, above all, intensely exciting!

First of all, the game itself: it's easy, it's great. Well, that's that. Seriously, though, we're dealing here with the product of over 30 years of development, so you can trust us (and GW too, ah yes, from now on GW = Games Workshop), if after 30 years the game is still around, it's a good one!

Then, 2nd point: Warhammer Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40'000? (other independent products like Bloodbowl or Necromunda, we won't talk about them here). I'm tempted to say, do you prefer Lord of the Rings (or Narnia) or Star Wars? In fact, what we're talking about here is defining the atmosphere of the game in which you'll be evolving and, as a general, making decisions.

Warhammer 40,000 takes place in a futuristic world where laser and plasma weapons are the norm.

Age of Sigmar, which is the result of an overhaul of the late Warhammer Fantasy (or Warhammer Battle, and I'm not going to debate or explain here the difference and the whys and wherefores of this transition, otherwise this blog will turn into a 1000-page essay) draws its essence from the style more commonly known as "High Fantasy", immersing us in a world of magic, elves, dragons and other enchanted creatures.

In both cases, the aim is to choose an army to fight against an opponent with his own army. Whether in AoS (Age of Sigmar) or 40k, armies can be chosen purely for the aesthetics of the miniatures, or for their associated skills and combat strategy (indeed, each army, or order, will have different characteristics and therefore a different way of fighting). It's obviously not possible to detail them all here, but there are several YouTubers who have gone to the trouble (especially in English), so don't hesitate to take a look over there if you really want to understand the technical differences between each army.

After all, we're talking about a medium- to long-term story here, because collecting, painting, loving and leading an army is going to take time, so I'd like to say - but this is absolutely personal - that aesthetics (both of the miniatures and of the color schemes chosen) remain an important point.

I see I'm approaching the word limit before being recategorized as "paving stone", so I'll stop here. So, to sum up, get one of the two booklets on how to get started with Warhammer 40k or Age of Sigmar, watch a few explanatory videos, think about it, think about it a lot, probably sleep a little for a few days, think about it some more, then come and see us and take the plunge! There are ready-made boxes to get you started (even with paints inside), or you can start with your basic army in terms of miniatures and army book, a few paints (we're here to advise you too), 2 or 3 brushes, and off you go for the great adventure! And don't hesitate to join Facebook groups (there's a whole bunch of them) where you can also ask questions (and if you're brave, you can even ask for their advice on which army to start with, and get the popcorn ready for the ensuing debate!) and YouTube tutorials (lots of them!!) on how to paint properly (I'll come back to this subject in another article). Anyway, as I was saying, you're not alone and everything will be fine :-)
